Imagine attending a gallery opening filled with beautiful photography, each image touching you in a different way. Only, at this gallery, the photographs are all of children. Foster children looking for a place they can call home forever. And each photograph captures the inner light and spirit of the individual child.
It can be a very moving experience, especially for potential adoptive parents. Often, gallery attendees see something in a particular child’s photograph that connects with them, that just feels right. And many times that first connection leads to a lifelong relationship.
What makes the concept work so well is the photographers. Local photographers who volunteer their time and talents to photographing children, who are passionate about bringing out the true personality of each child.
The first Heart Gallery opened in Santa Fe, N.M., in March 2001 and was so successful that 30% of the children featured were adopted. In the last few years many other galleries have followed suit around the country, displaying portraits of hard to place children and connecting them with adoptive parents.
Heart Gallery Southeast sponsors galleries throughout Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.
